Regulations

Naturally, you want to be assured that any products we use are safe and will not cause alternative health and safety concerns. At Copper Cover we have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure the highest safety standards.

For any product to be used as a biocide (includes bacteria and viruses) in the EU (including throughout the UK as these regulations were encapsuled in law during the BREXIT process), it must explicitly appear on the ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) register known as the "Article 95 List". This confers compliance with the European Biocidal Regulations, or ECHA quote this on their website

The Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, Regulation (EU) 528/2012) concerns the placing on the market and use of biocidal products, which are used to protect humans, animals, materials or articles against harmful organisms like pests or bacteria, by the action of the active substances contained in the biocidal product. This regulation aims to improve the functioning of the biocidal products market in the EU, while ensuring a high level of protection for humans and the environment.

The Article 95 List itself is split into a series of PT groups or Product Types, these are grouped as follows,

PT 2 covers the use of copper, directly relevant to our Copper Cover process.  PT 2 is defined as:

PT 2: Disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals

Used for the disinfection of surfaces, materials, equipment and furniture which are not used for direct contact with food or feeding stuffs. Usage areas include, inter alia, swimming pools, aquariums, bathing and other waters; air conditioning systems; and walls and floors in private, public, and industrial areas and in other areas for professional activities.

Used for disinfection of air, water not used for human or animal consumption, chemical toilets, waste water, hospital waste and soil.

Used as algaecides for treatment of swimming pools, aquariums and other waters and for remedial treatment of construction materials.

Used to be incorporated in textiles, tissues, masks, paints and other articles or materials with the purpose of producing treated articles with disinfecting properties.

We are pleased to be able to state categorically, that all Copper Cover products comply with these requirements and are sourced only from fully licensed sources so that all quality, health, and safety compliances are met.

Additionally, as of February 2021, the United States, Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) has fully recognised and approved the use of biocidal grade copper for these applications. Thus you can be fully confident in the use of our products for the improvement in biosecurity for your staff, workplace, residents, and customers.

Precautions and Long-term Use

Safety is our priority, and we take every precaution we can. Our team wears full PPE and maintains social distancing at all times to avoid respiratory transmission. All contact surfaces are handled with gloves.

Inhaling significant quantities of copper can temporarily cause mild nasal irritation or headaches. Surfaces are sprayed in our vans to prevent the spread of copper dust, and once sprayed fixtures can be used immediately. Our technology results in copper adhering to surfaces as strongly as it would if it were welded, which prevents chipping or scratching-off.
